STERLING, KS: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (2-3) traveled to Sterling Kansas on Saturday to take on Sterling College. The defending Red River Athletic Conference champions came away with a 5-1 win in their final tune-up before beginning the conference season next weekend.
Texas Wesleyan trailed early a 1-0, but Brianna McKernon found the net to send the game to halftime knotted at one. In the second half, McKernon scored again to give the Lady Rams the lead. Heather Fowler followed with her third goal of the season. Loren Clark scored to make it 4-1, and Nicole Richardson pulled even with Fowler for the team lead when she netted the fifth goal of the day.
Head Coach Josh Gibbs was very pleased with the team’s progression. “The girls really played great. They played like a team and showed that they can score goals when they need to score goals.”
The end of the tunnel is in site for the road warriors. The Lady Rams have one more road trip before finally playing their home opener. Texas Wesleyan will travel to Hobbs, NM, to open the RRAC schedule against College of the Southwest on Saturday, September 23. That game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game. The Lady Rams’ home opener will be Saturday, September 30, against rival Northwood University. |
