HOBBS, NM: In their final game before finally coming home, the Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (2-4, 0-1 RRAC) suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in the second overtime against a College of the Southwest team that now owns a spotless 8-0 record (3-0 RRAC).
Each of Texas Wesleyan’s six games this season has been on the road. Their two longest road trips came in back-to-back contests, last weekend’s 5-1 win in Sterling, KS, and today’s game in Hobbs, NM. The Lady Rams are thrilled to return to Martin Field where they will be taking on rival Northwood University on Saturday, September 30.
After trailing 1-0 at the break, Brianna McKernon notched her third goal of the season early in the second half. The goal came on an assist from Heather Fowler and tied the game at one.
From that point the game remained knotted until the Mustangs’ Zoe Cranmer netted the game-winner with two minutes remaining in the second and final overtime period.
“The girls really came out firing in the second half,” head coach Josh Gibbs said. “They controlled the ball and really dominated the period. We just didn’t finish a few opportunities and cam out on the wrong end of the scoreboard.”
Texas Wesleyan’s much-awaited match with Northwood is set for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday, September 30. |
