FORT WORTH, TX: A tremendous goal in the 82nd minute by Damien McBrien was not enough to lift the Texas Wesleyan University Rams (1-3-2) over the Huston-Tillotson University Rams at Martin Field on Friday. H-TU came away with a 2-1 win in the contest.
Texas Wesleyan controlled the game early until Frank Toscano netted the game’s first goal in the 31st minute for H-TU. Cautions then began to stack up for Texas Wesleyan. TWU was called for five cards while H-TU was called for three.
After a red card in at the 54-minute mark forced Texas Wesleyan to play a man down, Mario Orosco took a free kick from 35 yards out and found the net to bring the score to 2-0.
In the 82nd minute, defender Damien McBrien hit a booming shot from 40 yards out that got the Rams on the board. The goal gave Texas Wesleyan a spark of energy, but they were unable to score the equalizer.
Texas Wesleyan out shot Huston-Tillotson 23-18. Thomas Hansen made six save in goal for TWU while his counterpart, Gabe Gibbons, made eight saves for H-TU.
Texas Wesleyan will play another important Red River Athletic Conference match at Martin Field tomorrow. The Rams will host rival Northwood University. That match is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start and will be preceded by the Lady Rams home opener. |
