MUSKOGEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (11-5, 2-0 RRAC) took a 3-1 win at Bacone College on Friday. The Lady Rams won with scores of 30-27, 26-30, 30-20, and 30-19. Because Langston University has forfeited a match scheduled for Saturday, the Lady Rams improved to 2-0 in conference play and extended their Red River Athletic Conference winning streak to 30-matches.
Texas Wesleyan is off to a 2-0 start this season after running the table (16-0) in last season’s Red River Athletic Conference Schedule. The Lady Rams won 30-consecutive conference matches dating back to October 1, 2004.
On Friday, the Rams took a narrow 30-27 win over Bacone, before the Warriors leveled the match with a 30-26 win. That woke the Rams up as the rattled off double-digit wins at 30-20 and 30-19 to finish the match.
Sandra Ayala just missed a career-high with 22 kills to go with 12 digs. Liz Meng kept pace with 21 kills and five blocks. Jennifer Irwin led the team with 26 assists while Jazmine Ayala finished with 23. Ashley Mock, and Jazmine Ayala also recorded 12 digs while Erinn Miller pitched in four aces.
“This was exciting,” said head coach Christy Clawson. “The girls hit the ball really well tonight, and they were fun to watch.”
Because of Langston’s forfeit, the Lady Rams will not play until Tuesday, October 3, when they travel to Dallas, TX, to take on Paul Quinn College. That Red River Athletic Conference match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. |
