MUSTANGS SHOCK LADY RAMS
October 13, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (13-6, 3-2) appeared to be in good shape up 2-0 against College of the Southwest (6-17, 3-2) in the Sid Richardson Center on Friday the 13th.  However, the Mustangs controlled game three and staged incredible rallies in games four and five to take a 3-2 win.

Game one was tight as the two teams went through 13 ties and nine lead changes, but Texas Wesleyan used a 9-2 run to close out the game with a 30-24 win.  In game two, the Rams got ahead early and used a 5-2 run late to pull away for a 30-25 win.

Everything changed in game three.  The Mustangs started the game with six unanswered points and led by as many as ten at 18-8.  Texas Wesleyan nearly pulled off a tremendous comeback.  The Lady Rams pulled to within one at 27-28, then fought off a game-point, but eventually fell 30-28.

In game one, it was Texas Wesleyan that was off to the hot start.  The Lady Rams led 5-0, but College of the Southwest rallied to lead 11-9.  The Rams used a 5-0 run to take a 26-22 lead, but the Mustangs answered with their own 5-0 run to lead 27-26.  The game was tied at 28 before CSW scored the final two and took another 30-28 win.

Game five proved to be a thriller.  Texas Wesleyan took command with a 4-0 run to lead 13-11.  The Rams then had a pair of match points at 14-12, but College of the Southwest would not be denied.  The Mustangs eventually scratched out a 17-15 win to take the match.

Sandra Ayala recorded a double-double with 23 kills and 14 digs.  Jennifer Irwin set career-highs with 76 assists and 26 digs.  Jessica Colliau and Ashley Mock also set career-highs with 25 and 22 digs respectively.

The Rams return to action immediately.  They will take on Huston-Tillotson University at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Sid Richardson Center.
