SMITH'S HAT TRICK LEADS RAMS PAST LIONS
October 20, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team improved to 2-2-1 in conference play (3-7-2 overall) with a 4-1 win  over Southwestern Assemblies of God University at Martin Field on Friday.

After scoring his first collegiate goal in their last contest, freshman Ben Smith netted three of the Rams’ four goals on Friday.

Senior Damien McBrien, playing in front of his parents for the first time in his career, got the scoring started when he converted a penalty kick in the game’s 5th minute.  The margin remained 1-0 at halftime.

Smith put Texas Wesleyan on top 3-0 with goals in the 49th and 55th minutes.  SAGU’s Chase Bishop scored in the 79th minute, but Ryan Landers found Smith in the 81st minute to regain a three goal margin.

The Rams dominated play throughout, out shooting SAGU 41-9.  Lions goalkeeper Dallas Horne finished with 10 saves in the game.

The Rams will play their final home game on Saturday.  The team will honor its seniors prior to their 3:00 game against Bacone.
