TEXAS WESLEYAN TOPS BACONE 5-2
October 21, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  In their final home game of the season, the Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (4-7-2, 3-2-1 RRAC) got goals from five different players including two seniors on their way to a 5-2 win over Bacone College (2-10-1, 0-5 RRAC).

Prior to the game, the Rams honored six seniors. Thomas Hansen, Austin Salles, Damien McBrien, Ryan Landers, Jason Reid, and Julio DeLaRosa have led the program to 34 wins in their career and were instrumental in the program’s first conference championship last season.

On Senior Day it was very fitting that seniors scored the Rams’ first two goals and their final two goals were scored by freshmen.

Just seconds after the presentation of seniors, senior Ryan Landers broke free and Chase Richeson found him for the game’s first goal just inside the one-minute-mark.  In the 20th minute another senior, Jason Reid, beat the Bacone goalkeeper one-on-one for the Rams’ second goal.

In the 34th minute, Bacone’s Kiel DeLaRosa headed the ball into the net from point blank range to bring the Warriors within one.  However, Just before halftime, Richeson sent a free kick to the back of the net to send Texas Wesleyan to the break with a 3-1 advantage.

RJ Tany brought BC back into the game with a goal in the 69th minute, but Reid hit freshman Jaime Zubiate for his first collegiate goal in the 74th minute.  In the game’s final minute it was freshman Sixto Carroin Jr. who found the net for his first collegiate goal.

“That first goal out of the gate by Ryan was a big momentum boost,” said head coach Josh Gibbs.  “Obviously all of our seniors will be missed and to have a senior score in the first minute really got everyone up.  Good teams find a way to win, and today we did that.”

The Rams will travel to Houston, TX, on Thursday, October 26, to take on their former coach and the Houston Baptist Huskies.  That game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a women’s game.
