AYALA NAMED RRAC AND REGION VI P.O.W:

IRWIN GARNERS SECOND RRAC AWARD

FORT WORTH, TX:  Texas Wesleyan University’s Sandra Ayala has been named Red River Athletic Conference and Region VI Volleyball Player of the Week for the period of October 16-22, and for the second consecutive week, Jennifer Irwin was named RRAC Setter of the Week.

With 32 kills and 18 digs in three conference wins last week, Ayala continued to average a double-double per match this season. With just four matches remaining in the regular season, her season average now stands at 13.5 kills and 10.4 digs per match.  Ayala recorded 14 kills and 8 digs in a 3-0 win over Jarvis Christian, 14 kills and 7 digs in a 3-0 win over Wiley, and 4 kills and 3 digs in a 3-0 win over Texas College.

For Irwin, a freshman from Grapevine, TX, it was her second consecutive Setter of the Week Award.  Irwin has settled in and brought consistency to the Rams offense. She contributed 66 asssists (22 per match) and 17 digs in three 3-0 conference wins last week, and she has been a key component to the Rams winning eight of their last ten matches.
