CEDAR HILL, TX: For the second straight year, Texas Wesleyan University has punched a ticket to the Red River Athletic Conference women’s soccer championship game. The second seeded Lady Rams posted their fifth consecutive shutout in a 4-0 win over third seeded Bacone College on Tuesday.
Texas Wesleyan’s defense allowed just six shots while the offense ripped off 23 of their own. That possession also led to a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Heather Fowler put the Rams on top by netting goals in the 27th and 33rd minutes. In the 65th minute Aubrey Rice powered in a corner kick. Stephanie Blowers then put the finishing touch on the 4-0 win when she converted a free kick from 30 yards out.
“It’s just about surviving now,” said head coach Josh Gibbs. “I’m excited about this team. The girls are playing their best at the right time.”
Texas Wesleyan’s only other appearance in the final was last season, when they defeated Texas A&M International University 5-1 took take the program’s first title. In Wednesday’s final, the Lady Rams will face Houston Baptist University, who defeated top-seeded College of the Southwest 1-0. That match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. in Cedar Hill, TX.
