BACK-TO-BACK!
November 1, 2006

CEDAR HILL, TX:  One year after taking the program’s first Red River Athletic Conference championship, the Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team has done it again.  The Lady Rams took a 2-0 win over Houston Baptist University in Wednesday’s final.

Brianna McKernon handled the scoring for Texas Wesleyan.  In the 11th minute, Shannah Bohon played a free kick to McKernon who gave the Rams a 1-0 advantage.  In the 26th minute Bohon drew a foul in the box, and McKernon converted the ensuing penalty kick for a 2-0 score.

The game was the sixth consecutive shutout for Texas Wesleyan, marking a school record for consecutive shutouts and consecutive wins.  All six of those contests were against conference opponents, and the Lady Rams have put up an astonishing 28-0 scoring margin during that stretch.

Goalkeeper Brittany O’Brien posted her third shutout of the season, going the distance in goal for Texas Wesleyan.  O’Brien stopped all six of HBU’s shots.

The Lady Rams out shot the Huskies 22-6 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

“These are special kids,” said head coach Josh Gibbs.  “They just keep finding ways to win.  In August we weren’t sure if we would have enough to play, and now we’re conference champions.  These girls have the heart of a champion.”

The Lady Rams will be the third seed of six teams in the Region VI tournament and will host sixth seeded Oklahoma City University in the first round.  That match will be played an Martin Field on Friday, November 3.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
