FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team wrapped up its regular season at the Sid Richardson Center on Friday.  The Lady Rams (19-9, 8-3 RRAC) suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of rival Houston Baptist University (28-5, 9-0) with scores of 30-28, 30-17, 25-30, and 30-26.

Prior to the match, Texas Wesleyan honored two seniors who have helped lead the program to a record of 120-24 in the last four seasons.  Jessica Colliau has had a breakout season with a career-high 273 digs, reaching double-figures in digs 11 times.  Brandi Hatcher has appeared in 114 matches and recorded her 600th career dig in tonight’s match.

Game one certainly lived up to the billing of this rivalry match.  The game went through a remarkable 22 ties and 11 lead changes before HBU, currently ranked 10th in the nation, closed it out on a 5-1 run.

In game two, the Huskies used an 8-2 run to take control at 16-9 and then pulled away for the 30-17 win.  The Lady Rams came back fighting in game three.  Texas Wesleyan used a 4-1 run to take a 13-7 advantage, but HBU answered with a 7-1 run to tie the game at 14.  The game remained tied at 23, but the Lady Rams scored four unanswered points, and were able to close out the game at 30-25.

In game four, the Lady Rams led 13-12, but HBU rattled off six consecutive points to lead 18-13.  Texas Wesleyan narrowed the gap to three points several times, but could get no closer.

The Lady Rams continue to lead the all-time series between the two schools at 11-9, but Houston Baptist has won each of their last two meetings.

Liz Meng led the Lady Rams with 17 kills.  Sandra Ayala and Jennifer Irwin each turned in double-doubles.  Ayala finished with 15 kills and 10 digs, while Irwin tallied 40 assists and 12 digs.  Ashley Mock led the team with 21 digs.

The Lady Rams will begin play in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament  next weekend.  The tournament is being held in Waxahachie, TX, on the campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University on November 10-11.
