FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team fell to 1-1 on the season with a loss on the road to Oklahoma Christian University (1-0). The Eagles, who were ranked 13th in the country in the final regular season poll last season, took a 72-47 win over the Rams.
The Eagles jumped ahead 7-0 before Shawntay Anglin got the Lady Rams on the board with a three-pointer. After an Eagles bucket, Britannia Champion scored consecutive field goals to bring the Rams within two at 9-7. The Eagles then came alive, opening a 15-point lead at 28-13, and OC took a 30-20 edge into the break.
In the second half, the Lady Rams were unable to cut the deficit to single digits and the Eagles pulled away for the 72-47 win.
OC’s Katie Farris led all scorers with 19 points, while Rachel Martin turned in a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Champion led the Lady Rams with 11 points off the bench. Pilar Pinkus finished with 10 points.
Oklahoma Christian out rebounded Texas Wesleyan by just one, 50-49, but 23 Rams turnovers led to 20 points for the Eagles. OC also outscored the Rams 21-10 at the free throw line.
The Lady Rams return to action on Tuesday, November 7, when they travel to Plainview, TX, to take on Wayland Baptist University. That game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. |
