WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team (20-9) breezed to a 3-0 win over Wiley College (12-9) in quarterfinal action at the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday. The win gives Texas Wesleyan its fifth consecutive season with 20 or more wins.
The Rams, who enter the tournament as the third seed with a conference record of 8-3 topped sixth seeded Wiley (6-5 RRAC) with scores of 30-22, 30-13, and 30-17.
After trailing 9-7 in game one, Texas Wesleyan used an 8-1 run to take control at 15-10. Wiley cut the lead to two, but could not complete the comeback.
In game two, the Lady Rams opened a 20-8 lead and were able to coast to a 30-13 win. In game three, eight unanswered points gave Texas Wesleyan a 19-5 lead. The Lady Rams led by as many as 14 at 23-9 and cruised to the clinching 30-17 win.
Sandra Ayala led the attack with 12 kills and 12 digs. Erinn Miller finished with 10 kills and four blocks. Ashley Mock had 16 digs, and Jennifer Irwin led the way with 27 assists.
The Lady Rams advance to the RRAC Semifinals. They will take on #2 UT-Brownsville who defeated #7 Bacone College 3-0 (30-26, 30-15, 30-20). That match is scheduled to be played at 10:00 a.m. at Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday, November 11. The winner of that semifinal will advance to the conference championship match at 7:00 p.m.
