SCORPIONS STING RAMS
November 11, 2006

WAXAHACHIE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team (20-10) suffered a 3-1 loss against second seeded UT-Brownsville (26-10) in a Red River Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal game on Saturday.  The Scorpions defeated the Rams with scores of 31-29, 30-23, 15-30, and 30-16.

After trailing early in game one, Texas Wesleyan fought within a point at 18-17.  After exchanging 5-0 runs, the margin remained one point at 24-23.  UTB opened a 29-25 lead, but Texas Wesleyan fought off four game points before falling 31-29.

In game two, an early 8-0 run gave UTB a commanding 10-2 lead, and the Lady Rams were never able to get back into the contest.  The momentum shifted quickly in game three.  With their backs against the wall, the Lady Rams responded with a 30-15 pummeling to send the match to a fourth game.

In that fourth game, Texas Wesleyan used a 5-0 run to get within two points at 13-11, but UTB later closed out the match on a 15-3 run.

Liz Meng led the offense with 13 kills.  Jennifer Irwin had 37 assists, and Jessica Colliau recorded 23 digs.

The Rams will now await the release of the Region VI rankings to learn whether or not they will receive an at large bid to the NAIA Region VI Tournament.  Those rankings will be released on Monday.
