TYLER, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (9-4, 2-0 RRAC) took a 68-39 win over Texas College(0-8, 0-3) in Red River Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
In the first half the Rams held the Steers to just 19% shooting from the floor while hitting at a 36% clip on their end. That led to a 31-15 Texas Wesleyan lead at the half.
In the second half, the Steers cut the margin to 10-points at 34-24, but the Rams responded with a 12-2 run of their own. Texas Wesleyan stretched that lead to 28-points at 57-29 with 7:14 to play and won going away 68-39.
Texas Wesleyan dominated the glass 64-47, while holding the Steers to 20% shooting in the game. The Lady Rams also scored 21 points off of 20 turnovers and notched 17 second chance points on 21 offensive rebounds.
Kim Gatlin led the Rams with 11 points. Sheleatha Simmons added 10 points while Tara Hurd finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Brittany Davenport turned in a solid all-around game for Texas Wesleyan with six points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
Erica Delley provided most of the offense for Texas College with 21 points to go with 16 rebounds. The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday, January 12, when they travel down Highway 287 to Waxahachie, TX, where they will take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University in another RRAC contest. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start. |
