FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (11-4) ran its current winning streak to seven games and remained unbeaten at 4-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play with a 70-61 win over Paul Quinn College (4-11, 2-3) on Monday.
In the first half, Paul Quinn’s Crystal DeBose would not allow Texas Wesleyan to gain the upper hand. DeBose hit 5-of-6 three-point attempts in the frame to keep the Tigers close. The Rams needed jumpers from Keegan Harry and Brittany Davenport in the final minute to go to the locker room with a 40-35 lead.
In the second half the Rams buckled down defensively. Texas Wesleyan held Paul Quinn to just 35% in the frame and was able to pull away by as many as 19 points, 70-51.
Three Lady Rams reached double-figures in scoring led by Moneke Smallwood and Brittany Turner who each posted 17 points. Kim Gatlin nearly had a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Rams held a 49-29 rebounding advantage and forced 25 turnovers in the contest.
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Wednesday when they host Langston University in RRAC action. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
