FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (11-5, 4-1) suffered a loss to conference rival Langston University (14-1, 5-0) 85-53 on Wednesday.
The Lady Rams started the game off strong, jumping out to a 7-2 lead with 18:04 left in the first half. Langston then took a 30 second time out and took control of the game. The Lady Rams shot 32.1% in the first half, only hitting 9 of 28 from the field. Moneke Smallwood led the Lady Rams in the first half with 10 points and three assists. Langston shot 53.6% in the half and took a 39-21 lead at the break.
The second half was more of the same. Kim Gatlin and Britannia Champion led the Lady Rams with six points each. The Lady Rams shot 34.5% from the floor, and 14.3% from behind the arc, hitting 1 of 7 in the second half.
The Lady Rams shot 33.3% in the game, 18.2% from the three-point line, and shot 72.2% from the free throw line. Langston shot 64.8% from the field, 33.35% from the three-point line, and 70.6% from the free throw line. Smallwood led the Lady Rams for the game scoring 12 points and dishing out four assists. Gatlin had 11 points and two steals, while Champion took down eight points.
The Lady Rams look to rebound as they take on Dallas Christian College in Dallas, on January 19. Game time scheduled for 5:30 pm. The Lady Rams next home game is on Saturday, January 26. They take on Wiley College at the Sid Richardson Center at 5:30 pm.
