DALLAS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (12-5) took out their frustrations from Wednesday’s conference loss to Langston University at Dallas Christian College on Saturday. The Lady Rams outscored the Crusaders by 30 points in the second half and cruised to an 83-50 win.
“It was good to get back on track heading back into conference play,” commented head coach Stacy Francis. “We came out sluggish, but got after it in the second half.”
The Crusaders put up a fight early and trailed 33-30 at halftime. The Rams flexed their muscle in the second half and ran away with the 83-50 win.
The Lady Rams outrebounded the Crusaders 70-44 coming just one rebound shy of the school record. Texas Wesleyan brought down 71 rebounds in a 101-65 win over Schreiner College in the 1995-96 season.
Three Lady Rams reached double-figures in scoring led by Brittany Turner’s 14. Turner also grabbed seven boards. Keegan Harry added 11 points and four rebounds while freshman Arielle Mitchell posted a career high 11 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes of play.
Andria Mitchell and Britannia Champion led the Rams in rebounding. Mitchell posted 12 boards while Champion added 10.
Texas Wesleyan returns to Red River Athletic Conference play on Monday when the 4-1 Rams travel to Austin, TX, to take on 1-2 Huston-Tillotson University (2-10 overall). That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. |
