FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (13-6, 6-0 RRAC) moved into the NAIA’s top-25 national ranking on Wednesday. The Rams, who had received votes in each of the last two polls, moved up to 23rd in this week’s ranking.
The Rams are riding a six game winning streak, and sit atop the Red River Athletic Conference standings at 6-0. Rebounding and strong defense has paved the way for a successful season so far. Texas Wesleyan ranks 8th among NAIA schools with 42.3 rebounds per game and 15th with a rebounding margin of +7.7. The team also ranks 26th with 66.8 points allowed per game. They have allowed 70 or more points on just four occasions and 80 or more points only once.
Considering the Rams starting five includes a pair of freshmen and a pair of sophomores, their rise to the top-25 has been quicker than expected.
On Saturday, the Rams will host the RRAC’s preseason favorite Wiley College. The Wildcats have been ranked as high as 15th this season and currently hold a record of 12-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. |
