FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (13-7, 5-3 RRAC) took a 62-52 win from Jarvis Christian College (7-10, 3-5 RRAC) on Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs gave the Lady Rams a fight, keeping the game relatively close, but the Lady Rams were able to maintain a three to five point lead throughout the first half.
The Lady Rams led 35-30 at the half thanks to Kim Gatlin, who scored 13 points, and had three assists and two steals in the first half of play.
The Lady Bulldogs’ Lacy Monroe hit a three to tie the game at 23 with 7:51 left in the first half, but a quick steal and lay-up by Gatlin gave the Lady Rams a 25-23 lead.
The Lady Rams shot 53.8% in the first half to maintain control.
The second half showed more strong play from the Lady Rams, led by Brittany Davenport. Davenport finished with a double double scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards. Davenport also added three assists and three steals in the contest.
Brittany turner just missed a double double putting down nine points, with 10 rebounds.
Gatlin finished with 18 points, five assists, and three steals.
The Lady Rams shot a solid 41.4% to Jarvis’ 31.3% and cruised to the final buzzer, winning 62-52.
The Lady Rams next game is on Saturday, February 2 at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Rams will look to capture another conference win as they host the Bacone College Lady Warriors at the Sid Richardson Center.
