FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (14-7, 6-3 RRAC) took an easy 68-46 win over conference opponent Bacone College (12-8, 5-4) on Saturday. With the win the Lady Rams move to two and a half games behind RRAC conference leader Langston University.
The Lady Rams and Lady Warriors put on a close and exciting first half. The game was tied up five times throughout the half, but the Lady Rams never gave up the lead beyond 9:51 remaining.
Brittany Turner was perfect from the field (3-3) and the charity line (4-4) in the first half scoring 10 points. She also grabbed five boards and added two steals in 17 minutes of play.
Despite shooting 33.3% to Bacone’s 45.5% the Lady Rams capitalized on turnovers scoring 13 off of 13 Bacone miscues and took a 27-23 lead going into the break.
In the second half, four quick points from Bacone’s Nichole Brazelton and Sicarra Farris tied the game at 27 all with 18:55 remaining.
That was the last time Bacone was able to level the score. The Lady Rams led by as many as 23 and kept a comfortable lead until the final buzzer.
Game leaders for the Lady Rams included Turner, who scored 18 points and had eight rebounds to along with two assists and two steals. Moneke Smallwood scored 13 points and added three assists for the Lady Rams.
