MARSHALL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (18-10, 9-6 RRAC) suffered a 78-48 defeat at the hands of Wiley College (25-5, 13-2) on Saturday.
The Lady Rams made a game of it in the first half. After Wiley jumped out to a 12-4 start, the Rams cut the margin to a single point when a pair of free throws from Tara Hurd brought the score to 16-15.
Wiley led 36-24 at the intermission after a late 12-5 run.
In the second half, the Rams trailed 40-31, when a 17-4 run put the game out of reach. The Wildcats shot 59% from the floor in the second half and ran away with the 78-48 win.
Normally dominant on the glass, the Rams were out rebounded 52-26 in the contest. The Rams did force 24 turnovers, but Wiley out scored Texas Wesleyan 21-8 on second chance points.
Kim Gatlin led the Lady Rams with 11 points. Wiley’s Jaziman King led all scorers with 18 points while Linda Emeghebo scored 14 points and brought down 13 rebounds for the Wildcats.
The Rams will return to the court on Monday, when they travel to Hawkins, TX, to take on Jarvis Christian College in their regular season finale. That game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. |
