MOLINAR, TARRANT NAMED RRAC P.O.W.

FORT WORTH, TX:  Texas Wesleyan University’s Lindsey Molinar and Ashley Tarrant have been named Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period of February 25-March 4.

Molinar, a senior shortstop from Fort Worth, TX, shared the award with Lea Santos of

College of the Southwest.  Molinar scored six runs and drove in two others in a 3-1 week for the Lady Rams.  She went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI in a 14-0 win over Texas College, and she was 2-for-3 hitting against Northwood University (TX) in a 4-1 victory. Molinar also drew four walks and was 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts.

Tarrant, a freshman pitcher from Martin’s Mill, TX, shared her award with Northwood University’s Ashley Westerman.  Tarrant picked up a pair of victories last week for the Lady Rams.  She tossed a complete-game, one-hitter against Texas College with eight strikeouts and one walk.  She then allowed just one run while striking out 10 batters in a 4-1 win over Northwood.  For the week, she racked up 18 strikeouts and allowed just three walks.

The Lady Rams are 4-10 overall, but 4-2 in RRAC competition.  They will return to action this weekend when they participate in Oklahoma State University’s Mizuno Classic.  The Rams will take on Centenary College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday before taking on Oklahoma State at 5:00 p.m.
