LADY RAMS SPLIT WITH MOUNTAINEERS
March 12, 2007

Box Score - Game One

Box Score - Game Two

KERRVILLE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (5-14) split a doubleheader at Schreiner University (4-8) on Wednesday.  Ashley Oldham tossed a two-hitter in a 2-0 win in game one.  The Mountaineers rallied to take game two by a score of 4-2.

After allowing two-singles in the first inning, Oldham set down 19 of the last 22 hitters she faced.  Schreiner’s Rebecca Hay nearly matched Oldham’s effort.  Hay stranded four base-runners in the first six innings before a double from Lauren Garza plated two Texas Wesleyan runs in the seventh.

Oldham (2-5) struck out eight and did not walk a batter in a complete-game seven innings of work.  Hay took the loss after allowing two runs, one earned on five hits while striking out eight in seven innings pitched.

Game two featured more solid pitching.  Schreiner jumped ahead with an unearned tally in the fourth inning, but Texas Wesleyan tied the game when Lauren Garza singled and later scored on an error in the fifth.

In the sixth, the Rams issued back-to-back walks to start the inning.  Megan Eichman followed with a two-run double and Lyndie Travis added an RBI single to put the Mountaineers on top.

In the seventh, the Rams got the winning run to the plate with one out, but could score just one run on a double from Sabrina Davison.

Patsy Toman got the win after allowing one unearned run on five hits in seven innings of work.  Taylor Wood (0-4) took the loss after giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out six in five plus innings pitched.

Garza continued her steady work at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored.

The Rams will return to the field on Wednesday, March 19, when they host NCAA Division I Houston Baptist University at Sycamore Park.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
