SMITH EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT RRAC P.O.W. AWARD

FORT WORTH, TX:  For the second consecutive week, Texas Wesleyan University’s Zach Smith has been named Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week.  Smith shared the award with Texas College’s Kurt Knight.

Smith, a senior third baseman from Sanger, TX, also led the Rams to a 4-1 week by going 13-for-18 at the plate (.722) and driving in 12 runs.  He had four multiple-hit games including a 4-for-4 performance with a home run and four RBI as Texas Wesleyan knocked off 15th-ranked Wayland Baptist University (TX), 19-5.  Smith also went 5-for-6 in a double-header sweep of Marietta College (OH) to extend his current hitting streak to nine games. He scored 11 runs with two doubles and four walks on the week.  During his current hitting streak he is batting .636 (21-for-33) with five doubles, a homer, 16 runs scored and 21 RBI.

Knight, a sophomore centerfielder from Pompano Beach, FL, blasted four home runs for the Steers as they won four of five games last week.  For the week, he was 10-of-23 hitting (.435) with 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Texas College raised its record to 8-22.

The Rams stand at 15-8 on the season, and have won seven of their last nine.  They are scheduled to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, weather permitting.
