Box Score - Game Two
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (18-29) suffered a pair of extra-inning losses at the hands of LSU Alexandria (15-26) in their final regular season contests. The Generals staged late-inning comebacks in both games to win 4-1, and 4-3.
Between contests, the Lady Rams honored their four seniors. Elizabeth Brady, Brooke McNabb, Lindsey Molinar, and Ariel Raley have put up staggering individual numbers while leading Texas Wesleyan to 97 victories during their tenure.
In game one, the Lady Rams took a 1-0 lead with singles from Tara Martinez and Lateah Lucero and an RBI groundout from Tana Park in the second inning.
It appeared that Ashley Oldham would make that lone run stand up as Texas Wesleyan led 1-0 heading to the seventh inning. However, Katy Parrott made a leadoff walk hurt when she doubled in the tying run. After a Texas Wesleyan error extended the eighth inning, Sloane Laiche gave the Generals the lead with an RBI double, and Amy Leonard hit a two run homer that gave LSU Alexandria the 4-1 win.
Oldham (6-13) allowed just one earned run in 7.2 innings pitched. She gave up just four hits and two walks while striking out 10.
In game two, an RBI single from Lucero in the fifth inning appeared to be all that Ashley Tarrant required. The freshman hurler shut down the LSUA offense for 6.2 innings and had the Generals down to their final strike. That is when Megan Russell lined a two-run homer to left field.
Lauren Garza led off the bottom of the seventh with a sharp single to left, and later stole second. Garza then caught the Generals napping when she scored the tying run from second base on an infield single from Park.
After Laiche gave LSUA a 4-2 advantage by hitting a two-run bomb on the first pitch of the eighth inning, the Rams got an RBI single from Taylor Wood, but stranded the tying run at second base.
Tarrant (5-4) allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out nine in eight innings of work.
With a 17-7 conference record, the Lady Rams will be the third seed in next weekend’s conference tournament. That tournament will take place Friday and Saturday in Farmer’s Branch, TX.
