FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Hayden Lackey claimed his second consecutive Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week Award, while his teammate, Kyle Harmon, was named Player of the Week for the period of April 21-27.
Lackey, a senior reliever from Duncanville, TX, threw 6.1 scoreless innings across two games. In a non-conference game against Wiley College (TX), he earned the victory with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work as the Rams won, 4-3, in extra innings. On Saturday, he recorded his school-record 23rd career save in a 6-3 defeat of LSU-Alexandria in the first game of a doubleheader. The appearance was the 100th of his career and moved him within one of the all-time NAIA record.
Harmon, a junior catcher from Winter Park, FL, belted a pair of home runs and drove in three runs in a 4-0 week for the Rams. His pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning secured a 4-2 win over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and his two-run bomb in the second game of a doubleheader with LSU-Alexandria set the course toward a 7-1 victory.
Texas Wesleyan capped the season at 37-12 overall. The 19th ranked Rams had already captured the top seed in the RRAC tournament with a 14-1 conference mark. They will play sixth seeded UT-Brownsville in Brownsville, TX, at 6:00 p.m. tonight. |
