LADY RAMS FALL IN RRAC TOURNAMENT
May 2, 2008

Box Score - vs. Bacone

Box Score - vs. Texas College

Box Score - vs. College of the Southwest

FARMER’S BRANCH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball season came to an end on Friday after going 1-2 in Red River Athletic Conference Tournament play on Friday.  The Lady Rams suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Bacone College (30-27), then topped Texas College (6-15) 19-1, and lost a hard fought elimination game to College of the Southwest (22-23) by a score of 7-5.

Against Bacone, Ariel Raley put the Rams on top in when she led off the fourth inning with a home run to left-center.  The Rams had plenty of opportunities in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but stranded six runners in those frames.

Ashley Oldham was in complete control, having allowed just one hit through the first six innings.  In the bottom of the seventh, Lindsay Glass drew a one out walk and Sally Pennington followed with a walk-off home run to send the Lady Rams into the lower bracket.

Oldham (6-13) allowed two runs on two hits in 6.1 innings in the loss.  Raley, Tana Park, and Lateah Lucero each recorded a pair of hits for the Lady Rams.

Against Texas College, the Steers pushed one run across in the first, but the Rams responded with a sac fly from Brooke McNabb and a two-run single from Alyssa Cherry in the bottom of the frame.

The Rams added three runs on three hits including a leadoff double from Lucero in the second.  The third inning saw Texas Wesleyan plate eight runs on seven hits including doubles from Lauren Garza, Elizabeth Brady, and Taylor Wood, and a triple from McNabb.

Five more runs, including a solo home run from McNabb, in the fourth brought the score to 19-1.

Raley was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored.  McNabb added a home run, triple, three RBI, and three runs scored.  Elizabeth Brady went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.

Rayne Reynolds (4-4) allowed one unearned run on three hits while striking out four in five innings of work.

In the elimination game against College of the Southwest, Ashley Tarrant pitched around a first inning error and left runners at the corners.  The game remained scoreless until the third when Garza ripped a leadoff double into the alley in left-center and scored on a sac fly from McNabb.

Texas Wesleyan added an RBI double from Cherry in the fourth and an RBI double from McNabb in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth Laura Walp erased that three run lead with one swing, knocking a three-run homer over the wall in left.  In the seventh, the Mustangs took control with four runs on four hits and two Texas Wesleyan errors.

The Rams were nearly up to the task in the bottom of the seventh.  Lucero led off with a double and seniors McNabb, Raley, and Brady reached base in succession.  After a single from Taylor Wood, the Rams had the bases loaded with Wood representing the winning run, but Stephanie Ganaway induced an inning ending ground ball to get out of the jam.

McNabb, Raley, and Brady were all impressive in their final collegiate performances.  Each hit well over .500 for the tournament, combining for 16 hits, 10 RBI, and 12 runs scored on the day.

The Lady Rams finished the season at 19-31 overall and 17-7 in conference play.
