PLYMOUTH, IN: The 10th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team fell to eleventh after two rounds at the 57th NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship at Indiana National Golf Club.
On a day in which only nine teams shot under 300, and only one shot under par, the Rams shot 304 and fell into a tie for eleventh.
With the low round of the tournament thus far (281), the University of British Columbia jumped into the overall lead at seven under par. Point Loma Nazarene’s Sam Cyr and Johnson & Wales’ Nick Zappin lead all individuals at five under par (139).
Mitch Hendon, an All-Region selection in the ultra-competitive NAIA Region VI, shot a second round of 74 and is tied for 27th position.
After a tough first round on Tuesday, Kevin Doskocil responded with a solid round of 74 on Wednesday.
The back nine proved to be difficult for the Rams. Paco Saracho was three over par through 16 holes, but a double bogey on 17 and a bogey on 18 dropped him to six over, 78. Armando Villarreal was +2 on the front nine, but finished at 78 as well. After a solid first round, freshman Stuart Martin was +1 through nine holes, but finished at +7 (79) for the day.
The field will be cut to 17 (plus ties) after tomorrow’s third round action.
