FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Mitch Hendon and Kevin Doskocil have been named to the 2008 Men’s Golf Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete team. The award is given annually to juniors and seniors, nominated by their head coach, who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
The award was the second for Hendon, a senior from Burleson, TX, who has graduated with a degree in finance. Hendon had an outstanding season with eight top-ten finishes in twelve events, while posting a team leading 73.39 scoring average. He also posted five top five’s including wins at the Charels Coody Invitational and The Territory Classic and a second place finish at the Rattler Invitational. In last week’s NAIA National Championship Hendon tied for 17th overall.
Doskocil, a junior from Hillsboro, TX, posted four top-ten finishes this year. His best finish came at the Sleep Inn & Suites Spring Classic when he tied for second in a field of 100 golfers.
Hendon and Doskocil were integral in a tremendous season for Texas Wesleyan. The Rams won three tournaments, while garnering nine top-five and ten top-ten finishes. The Rams finished 10th in the 57th NAIA National Championship, marking the program’s 44th top-ten finish in that event.
