FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (1-3-1) took its first win of the young season on Friday, knocking off Mid-America Christian University (3-3-0) by a score of 3-2 at Martin Field.
Sarah Wilson got Texas Wesleyan on the board early. Loren Clark fed Wilson for the score in the 4th minute. That goal gave the Lady Rams a 1-0 lead throughout the first half.
Just over two minutes into the second half, Lindsey McKinney scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at one. In the 59th minute Brianna McKernon put the Rams back on top when she scored her second goal of the season off of a free kick.
The Evangels had the answer again however. Laci Ruppel pulled Brittany O’Brien away from the goal and served the ball just over her head and into the net to tie the game at two.
In the 84th minute O’Brien’s goal kick cleared the field. Loren Clark found the ball in stride and put away the game-winning goal.
Texas Wesleyan out shot MACU 25-14. O’Brien made five saves in the win. MACU’s Emily Lyon made nine saves in the loss.
“I’m glad to get our first win,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “We were much more dangerous. Now we just need to finish. We are still working out the kinks, and hopefully we will hit our stride with the conference season.”
The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday, when they host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. That game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game.
