FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team (4-7) lost a match to UT-Brownsville Saturday. The Lady Rams pushed the Region VI leading Scorpions to five games (28-30, 30-18, 30-21, 25-30, 15-9) but narrowly lost in the fifth game 15-9.
The Rams proved that they can play with the best teams in the region by staying with the Scorpions in every game. They jumped ahead 1-0 with a 30-28 win in game one, and later took a second win (30-25) in game four that sent the match to a decisive game five.
Sandra Ayala led the Rams with 14 kills to go with14 digs, and 3 block assists. Kristen Venhuizen recorded 10 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces. Evoni darling contributed 37 assists, and Ashley Mock had 29 digs in the loss.
The Lady Rams travel to Dallas to take on Paul Quinn College Tuesday, September 11, at 7:00 pm. The Lady Rams’ next home game will be on Friday, September 14, at 1:00 pm. They take on John Brown University in the first ever Hughes-Wesleyan Volleyball Classic at the Sid Richardson Center in Fort Worth.
