FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (2-3-1) took a 2-1 win in overtime over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (0-3-0) on Saturday.
UMHB snagged an early lead when Lauren Thorne found Brittany Paxton for a goal just under four minutes into the contest.
Sarah Wilson responded seven minutes later when she collected a pass from Brianna McKernon and hit the back of the net. Defense prevailed for the remainder of regulation.
Two and a half minutes into the first overtime period Christina Zimmerman fed Candice Reeves who ended the game with her second collegiate goal.
The Rams out shot the Cru 20-12. Brittany O’Brien made four saves in the win. Ally Sargeant made ten saves, but took the loss.
Head coach Josh Gibbs commented on his team’s second win in as many days, “I thought we were dangerous all day, and we outclassed them in the end. Now we have another tough game to prepare for.”
The Lady Rams return to the field on Wednesday, when they travel to Canyon, TX, to take on West Texas A&M University. That game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start and will be preceded by a men’s game.
