ABILENE, TX: The 13th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team kicked off the 2007-08 season on Monday. After one round at Abilene Christian University’s Charles Coody Intercollegiate, the Rams lead the field of eighteen teams.
In their first round of the season, Texas Wesleyan posted the fifth-best single-round score in program history and the best since the 1983 National Tournament, in which the Rams finished second. The Rams shot six-under par 278 as a team and lead Midwestern State University by two strokes.
Texas Wesleyan’s Mitch Hendon leads all individuals after a round of 66 on the par-71 Diamondback Golf Course. Hendon’s round is tied for the seventh best in the storied history of Texas Wesleyan Golf.
Junior Paco Saracho, who is coming off a win at the Fort Worth City Championship, shot a round of 69. Kevin Doskocil finished at even par, while Drew Koonce was one-over at 72. Johnathon Dickerson overcame a rough start in his first collegiate tournament. Dickerson was four-under in his last six holes to post a card of 74.
The Rams will complete play in the Charles Coody Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
