RAMS OPEN SEASON WITH WIN
September 11, 2007

ABILENE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team completed play in Abilene Christian University’s Charles Coody Intercollegiate on Tuesday.  The Rams fired a round of 288 and held on for the win by four strokes over St. Edward’s University.

The Ram’s 36-hole score of 566 marks the fifth best such score in program history.  St. Edward’s shot 287 on Tuesday to finish at 570.

Last weekend, Texas Wesleyan’s Paco Saracho and Mitch Hendon finished first and second in the college flight of the Fort Worth City Championship.  This week the duo reversed roles.  Mitch Hendon shot a second round 69 to hold off Saracho by one shot for his first collegiate win.  Saracho followed a first round 69 with a card of 67.

Hendon and Saracho carved their names into the Texas Wesleyan record book.  Their 36-hole scores of 135 and 136 are tied for fourth and sixth in program history.

“That was great to see Mitch get his first win and have those two [Hendon and Saracho] finish first and second after going one and two last week,” said head coach Kevin Millikan.  “This was a pretty good way to start the year.”

Kevin Doskocil shot a second round 71 to finish seven shots off the pace at 142.  Johnathon Dickerson shot 81 (155) and Drew Koonce shot 84 (156) to round out the Rams scorecard.

The Rams return to action next week in The Territory Classic.  That tournament will be hosted by Cameron University at The Territory Golf Course in Duncan, OK, on September 17-18.
