FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan’s Ryan Barnes has been honored in his home of Victoria, Australia. The 6’ 7” freshman guard received two awards at Wednesday night’s Victoria Big-V Awards night.
Barnes received the Victoria Big-V Youth League Division I Rising Star award and was a Big-V Youth League Division I All-Star selection.
The awards night was a black collar affair at the Moonee Valley Cahmpions Room with a crowd of 800 people in attendance.
Barnes had a terrific prep career in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia averaging 31 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and five steals per game in four years at Sunbury Secondary College. The 6’7” guard led coach Kevin Goorjian’s SSC team to the Western Zone finals as a sophomore, a Western Zone Championship as a junior, and a Victorian State Schools Championship in his senior year.
Barnes also played for coach Nick Abdicivic’s Melbourne Tigers. He averaged 24 points, nine rebounds, and four assists per game in the Victorian Junior Basketball League.
The Rams begin practice on October 1. Their season opener is scheduled for November 6, when they travel to Oklahoma City, OK, to take on perennial NAIA power Oklahoma Christian University. Their home opener is scheduled for November 8, when they host Parker College at the Sid Richardson Center.
