RAMS WIN NAILBITER, 2-1
September 14, 2007

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team improved to 4-2-0 on the season with a 2-1 win over St. Gregory’s University (2-3-0) at Martin Field on Friday.

St. Gregory’s out shot Texas Wesleyan 16-11 in the first half and took a 1-0 lead when Antonio Ycaza scored off an assist from Diego Molero in the 42nd minute.

The Rams regrouped in the second half, quickly tying the game with an unassisted goal from defenseman Jaime Saenz in the 53rd minute.

In the 62nd minute Seth Mullins ripped a pass over the top that Adis Druzanovic collected and deposited into the net for the eventual game winner.

Down the stretch the game was hotly contested.  Four yellow cards were handed out in the final 10 minutes.  The game hit a new stride after SGU’s goalkeeper, Andres Pozo was given a card for trying to draw a penalty on Texas Wesleyan’s Leo Cubrilo.

Goalkeeper Joakim Soderbaum recorded a career-high 10 saves in the win.

Head coach Josh Gibbs said, “I wish the referee was not as involved as he was, but our guys did a good job of keeping a level head with everything else going on down the stretch.  Overall it was a good team effort.”

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Chickasha, OK, to take on the University of Science & Arts (OK).  That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start and will be preceded by a women’s game.
