FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (9-7) ran their current winning streak to five with a pair of wins today in the Hughes-Wesleyan Classic, knocking off John Brown University (3-7) and Belhaven College (7-9). The Lady Rams defeated John Brown in three games (30-22, 30-25, 30-25), and also defeated Belhaven in three games (30-18, 30-14, 30-19).
Liz Meng had ten kills, and Kristen Venhuizen tallied 7 kills, and 3 aces in the win over John Brown. Evoni Darling posted 22 assists and 3 aces in the match. Sandra Ayala had a team high 21 digs in the match, followed by Ashley Mock with 18 digs and 2 aces.
Against Belhaven, Ayala placed 8 kills, 14 digs, and 6 aces in the win. Meng recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs. Erinn Miller also tallied 11 kills and 8 digs. Darling had 30 assists in the match, and Mock recorded 26 digs.
In morning action on the opening day of the Hughes-Wesleyan Classic, Southwestern Assemblies of God (10-6) beat Sterling (5-3) with scores of 30-20, 30-19, 30-28. Lubbock Christian (8-3) beat College of the Ozarks (7-5) 30-14, 30-23, 30-21. Wayland Baptist (9-5) beat Lindsey Wilson (5-7) in five games, winning the fifth games by a score of 15-13.
This afternoon, Lubbock Christian won another, this time from Belhaven with scores of 30-23, 30-27, 30-22. College of the Ozarks took a win from Southwestern Assemblies of God three games to one. Wayland Baptist got the win against Sterling in three games (30-19, 30-25, 30-21) to close things out for day one of the tournament.
Saturday’s action begins at 9:00 a.m. with Lubbock Christian taking on Lindsey Wilson on court two and College of the Ozarks facing Wayland Baptist on court one. The Lady Rams will play Lindsey Wilson at 11:00 a.m. and Lubbock Christian at 3:00 p.m.
The day will conclude with the Texas Wesleyan alumni match at 6:00 p.m.
