RAMS TAKE BIG WIN
September 21, 2007

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  In their Red River Athletic Conference opener at Martin Field, the Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (4-4-2, 1-0 RRAC) took an impressive 7-1 win over Texas College (2-3-2, 0-1).

Freshman Candice Reeves led the offensive barrage with two goals and two assists.

Aubrey Rice got the scoring started with a powerful shot from the top of the box in the 4th minute.  In the 16th minute Jennifer Garcia, the Texas College goalkeeper, cleared a corner kick, but Christina Zimmerman collected the rebound and found the net for the game’s second score.  Danielle Parks added a goal in the 38th minute and, with five seconds remaining in the half, Zimmerman found Reeves to bring the score to 4-0 at halftime.

Eight minutes into the second period, Reeves scored off an assist from Steffi Lopez.  In the 66th minute, Allie Heafner found Loren Clark from midfield, and Clark scored the Rams’ sixth goal of the day.  Brianna McKernon made it 7-0 when Reeves hit her in the 69th minute.

A foul in the box with 14 seconds to play cost the team a shutout.  The Steers’ Briseida Ornelas converted the penalty kick to put her team on the board just before time expired.

Brittany O’Brien was outstanding in goal, collecting four saves for the Rams.  Garcia finished with 15 saves for Texas College.

For the game, the Rams out shot the Steers 47-9.

Head coach Josh Gibbs was very happy with the results, “It was great to see us be dangerous all day and finish some quality chances.”

The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, September 29, when they host UT-Brownsville in RRAC action.  The game, which is the first ever meeting between the two teams, is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
