RAMS HOST 10th ANNUAL O.D. BOUNDS CLASSIC
September 24, 2007

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team hosted the tenth annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic on Monday.  The event was held at Diamond Oaks Country Club, and all proceeds benefited the O.D. Bounds Endowment, which supports the golf program at Texas Wesleyan.

The event brought in approximately $25,000, bringing the O.D. Bounds Endowment to approximately $170,000.  “We had a great turnout this year,” said Head Coach Kevin Millikan.  “This event is a great tribute to Coach Bounds and to what he started here.  We are just trying to uphold his legacy.”

The tournament is named for Orrin Davis Bounds Jr. who served as head coach for the Rams for 40 years.  Bounds was a legend at Texas Wesleyan and in NAIA golf and was one of the most respected men in the golfing world.  He was the first coach to ever be inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame and was the inaugural member of the Texas Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame.  Bounds, who passed away in 2004, led the Rams to 109 tournament victories including three national championships.  The Rams honored his memory throughout the day, and as is the custom at the event, every player used his putter on the 18th green.

Under Bounds’ guidance Texas Wesleyan Men’s Golf became the most storied golf program in NAIA history.  The Rams have racked up 184 tournament wins including a record six national titles.  In 53 years of NAIA membership they have made 46 National Tournament appearances and have never missed the cut at that event.

The foursome of Rusty Moore, Ryan Stephens, Richard Noon, and Drew Koonce won the 1st flight with a card of 122 on Monday.  Chris Sanchez, Dave Voskuil, Lyle Kraft, and Keith Dennis won the 2nd flight at 135.  The tournament was followed by a dinner in the clubhouse as well as a raffle and auction.

Thirty-five teams and 140 individuals participated in the event, which was attended by numerous alumni, friends, and family.

The Rams, who have won each of their first two tournaments, return to action at next week’s Grand Canyon Invitational, October 1-2, in Phoenix, AZ.
