FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Brittany O’Brien has been selected as both Red River Athletic Conference and Region VI Defensive Women’s Soccer Palyer of the Week for the period of September 17-23.
O’Brien, a junior goalkeeper from Colleyville, TX, allowed just one goal in 200 minutes of work last week. She held the University of Science & Arts (OK) scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods as the Lady Rams earned a 0-0 tie, and she delivered four saves in a 7-1 victory over Texas College, missing a second shutout when the Rams gave up a penalty kick with 14 seconds remaining in the contest. For the week, O’Brien stopped 16-of-17 shots as the Lady Rams moved to 1-0 in the RRAC and 4-4-2 on the season.
The University of Texas-Brownsville’s Mayra Solis earned the offensive award in the RRAC.
The Rams will host UTB this Saturday, in a meeting between the top-two teams in the conference standings. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start and will be followed by a men’s game.
