GOODYEAR, AZ: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team sits in ninth place at five-over 581 through two rounds of the Grand Canyon Invitational at Estrella Mountain Ranch.
Texas Wesleyan put together a solid first-round of 294 and then climbed two positions with one-under par 287 in round two; however, they trail the leader, Abilene Christian University by 25 strokes after ACU shot 281, 275-556.
Point Loma Nazarene’s Sam Cyr leads the field at nine-under 135 (67, 68) and has his team just six shots off the pace.
Paco Saracho continued his outstanding play, shooting 73, 69-142 to sit in a tie for 17th. Mitch Hendon fired a round of 70 in the afternoon to recover from an opening round of 76. Hendon is tied at two-over with teammate Armondo Villareal who shot 73, 73-146.
Kevin Doskocil sits at five-over 149 (74, 75), and Drew Koonce shot 74, 77-151 to round out the Rams’ scores.
Head coach Kevin Millikan was pleased with his team’s composure on a difficult day. “We just didn’t have it today,” Millikan commented, “but, saying that, the guys got all they could out of rough day. The effort was there; the results were not.”
The Rams will complete play with final round action at Estrella Mountain Ranch on Tuesday.
