INJURY PLAGUED RAMS FALL TO SAINTS
October 4, 2007

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  A shorthanded Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (5-6-1) suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Our Lady of the Lake University (8-3-1) at Martin Field on Thursday.

The Rams missed the play of several key players.  Texas Wesleyan got off to a slow start, showing fatigue from a tough game in Houston on Wednesday.  OLLU out shot Texas Wesleyan 13-4 in the first frame and took a 2-0 halftime lead on the strength of a pair of goals from Tomas Flores.

The Rams seemed to regain their form in the second half, out shooting the Saints 13-6 in the period.  Midway through the second half Leo Cubrillo was taken down from behind in the box, but no foul call was made.  That missed opportunity proved to be the difference in the game.

In the 73rd minute Brad Egan found Theo Nabassi who beat the OLLU keeper who had come out to defend.  The Rams saw several good scoring opportunities in the closing minutes but could not get the tying goal across.

“We came out tired,” said head coach Josh Gibbs, “but I was pleased with the second half.  Our Lady of the Lake is a hard working team with a lot of speed, and they played well today.”

The Rams return to action on Saturday, when they make the short drive down Highway 287 to Waxahachie for a conference meeting with Southwestern Assemblies of God University.  That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start and will be preceded by a women’s game.
