Box Score
CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (7-6-2) moved into a tie for second at 3-1-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference standings after taking a 3-2 win at Northwood University (3-9-1, 2-2) on Saturday.
The Rams came out hot, scoring early and often. Theo Nabassi started things off with an early goal. Nabassi then beat a defender and drew a foul in the box. Seth Mullins knocked in the ensuing penalty kick to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. Leo Cubrilo scored in the 31st minute.
Northwood chipped away at the lead and cut the margin to 3-2 in the second half, but could not get the equalizer.
“We played well from the start,” said head coach Josh Gibbs. “Sven [Joakim Soderbaum] made a couple of outstanding saves at the end of the first half, and we were able to maintain control of the match.”
The Rams moved into a tie for second at 3-1-1 in the RRAC standings with Texas College; however, the Rams hold the tiebreaker with the Steers by virtue of a 2-1 win at Martin Field earlier this season.
The Rams return to the field with another RRAC contest on Sunday, when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on Huston-Tillotson University. That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start and will be preceded by a women’s game.
