HOUSTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (21-9) remained hot by taking a pair of matches on the opening day of the Houston Baptist University Husky Classic. The Rams took 3-0 wins over Oklahoma City University (27-5) and the University of St. Thomas-Houston (9-10).
The first match of the day featured two of the top teams in the NAIA’s Region VI. The 4th ranked Rams topped the 3rd ranked OCU Stars with scores of 30-25, 20-20, and 30-26.
Sandra Ayala poured in 21 kills to go with 11 digs and 3 blocks. Liz Meng finished with 14 kills and 10 digs. Erinn Miller contributed 11 kills, 16 digs, 4 blocks, and 3 aces. Evoni Darling had 47 assists and 13 digs.
The Rams followed that performance by topping the University of St. Thomas-Houston 30-28, 30-17, and 30-28.
Miller had another solid all-around performance with 10 kills, 5 digs, 3 blocks, and 3 aces. Meng added 13 kills, 8 digs, and 4 blocks. Darling posted 35 assists, 15 digs, and a pair of blocks.
The Rams jump right back into the fire on Saturday, taking on 2nd ranked (Region VI) Lubbock Christian University at 10:00 a.m. and NCAA Division I Houston Baptist at 4:00 p.m.
