CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (6-6-3, 3-1-1 RRAC) suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at Red River Athletic Conference leading Northwood University (7-4-2, 5-0) on Friday.
The Lady Rams defense continued to excel. The game was scoreless until the Lady Knights’ Valerie Mendoza converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute.
“We were dangerous today,” said head coach Josh Gibbs, who’s Lady Rams altered their scheme to play four forward and four in the back. “The girls played a great game. Brittany [O’Brien] was terrific in goal for us and Allie [Heafner] did a great job as sweeper.” The Lady Rams return to the field with another RRAC contest on Sunday, when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on Huston-Tillotson University. That game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start and will be followed by a men’s game. |
