HOUSTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (21-11) dropped a pair of matches at the Houston Baptist University Husky Classic. The Lady Rams were defeated 3-0 by Lubbock Christian University (19-6) Saturday morning and then fell 3-1 to the hosting Huskies (17-2) Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Rams’ opening match featured Region VI’s 4th and 2nd ranked teams. The 2nd ranked Chaps took the match with scores of 30-24, 30-28, and 30-25.
Erinn Miller and Liz Meng tallied double-doubles for the Lady Rams. Miller finished with 13 kills and 15 digs while Meng posted 14 kills and 13 digs. Meanwhile Evoni Darling had 40 assists and Ashley Mock had a team-high 19 digs.
The Huskies, who have dropped just three games in their last seven matches, topped the Rams with scores of 30-26, 24-30, 30-16, 30-25. With the win, Houston Baptist evened the all-time series with the Rams at 11 wins apiece.
Ayala and Meng posted double-doubles and were both named to the All-Tournament team. Ayala had 18 kills and 13 digs while Meng notched 17 kills and 13 digs. Darling finished with 50 assists, marking her fifth 50+ assist match of the season.
The Lady Rams return to the court on Wednesday, October 17, when they host Wiley College in Red River Athletic Conference action. That match is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
