FORT WORTH, TX: Sycamore Park saw another dominate pitching and clutch hitting performance Wednesday. This time it came from Jesse Wright (Sr.-1L) and Ryan Ragsdale (So.-1L) of the Navy team.
In the top of the second inning with the score already 1-0 favoring Gold, Jamieson Williamson (Fr.-HS) rolled a single up the middle with a runner on second. However, Jordan Buckley (Fr.-HS) threw the runner out at the plate and stopped a bigger inning. That play lifted the momentum of the Navy team and in the bottom of the inning the Navy team broke through with four runs, two of which where driven in by Ragsdale's one out double.
The very next inning the Navy team pushed their lead to 7-2 after Brad Henderson (Sr.-3L) led the inning off with a double to left center. He was driven in by another freshman, Colby Tomasi.
The scoring for the Navy team was finished in the bottom of the 5th inning when Jerry Fisher (Jr.-TR) reached on an error and two batters later Jordan Buckley drove Fisher and Ragsdale in with a two out double. Ragsdale and Buckley both ended the game with 2 RBI.
Wright, who saw the majority of his work last year out of the bullpen last year (3-1, 2.65 era, 2 saves, 37.3 IP), showed he has the stuff and stamina to possibly start this spring. He allowed only two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out six.
