OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (4-4) suffered a 78-50 loss at the hands of 12th ranked Oklahoma City University (3-3) on Saturday.
Texas Wesleyan out shot OCU 40%-39%, but the Stars grabbed 33 offensive rebounds and scored 27 second-chance points compared to just eight for the Lady Rams.
The Lady Rams continued their current trend of starting off hot. Texas Wesleyan led 12-11 seven minutes into the game when Kim Gatlin hit back-to-back threes to stretch the lead to seven. The Rams continued to lead until Zanita Johnson scored to tie the game at 22 with just under five minutes remaining in the half, and the Stars went on to a 29-26 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Texas Wesleyan trailed 52-43 when Johnson and Viola Beybeyah combined for 12 points in a 16-3 run that took just three minutes and put the game away at 68-47.
Brittany Turner led the Rams with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, while Gatlin finished with 13. Johnson led all scorers with 20 points.
The Lady Rams will look to get back in the win column on Monday, when they host St. Gregory’s University. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
