FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University head softball coach Shannon Gower announced today the signing of Deanna Freeman, a right-handed pitcher from Aledo High School.
Freeman was a three-year letter winner for coach Kevin Cook at AHS (Aledo, TX). She helped AHS to the 4A State Championship in her sophomore year and was named 1st-team All-District in her junior season.
Coach Gower believes Freeman will make an impact at Texas Wesleyan both offensively and in the field. “Deanna will add depth to an already strong pitching staff,” Gower said. “She will also be a presence in the offensive lineup as well.”
Texas Wesleyan finished third in the Red River Athletic Conference last season. In the process Coach Gower became the program’s all-time winningest coach, finishing the season with 116 career victories. The team featured six All-Conference players including Co-Player of the Year Haley Butler. The pitching staff led the conference in strikeouts while ranking second in ERA last season. Meanwhile the team’s top five hitters included three freshman and two sophomores. |
